Department OverviewThe is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.Function/Duties of PositionThe successful candidate will join an established and energetic research group focusing on clinically-relevant strategies for prevention and cure of HIV at the Oregon National Primate Research Center of OHSU. This position will support ongoing pre-clinical studies exploring transplant immunology and HIV virology using the macaque model of human disease. Previous individuals in this role have successfully matriculated into graduate and medical school. Responsibilities include a variety of laboratory procedures such as blood processing, ELISA, and flow cytometry, as well as data entry, statistical analysis of data, and reporting of research findings in written and oral formats. The successful candidate will contribute to general lab support duties, including maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment, autoclaving, and disposal of waste.Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards1. Technical Research:
Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including intake and processing of non-human primate samples, flow cytometry, quantitative PCR, and other immunological and virological assays
Data acquisition and analysis
2. Report Preparation:
Prepare various reports containing descriptive and analytical data
Evaluate data that may be submitted for publication or contribution to grant application(s), progress reports, etc.
3. Data Analysis/Records:
Maintain accurate records of data obtained during research
Analyze and summarize data from ongoing projects
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's in relevant field OR
Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR
4 years of relevant experience OR
Equivalent combination of training and experience
Additional DetailsWORKING CONDITIONS:
Willingness to work with animal samples which may contain pathogens dangerous to humans
Able to work flexible hours
Will be assigned responsibility for ensuring important work is scheduled and completed according to schedule
Will be expected to attend necropsy events
Will be expected to perform a lab chore
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Ability to carry and lift 10 pounds
Ability to stand for 3 continuous hours a day
Ability to work on computer for 5 continuous hours a day.
