Everstaff is seeking an Estate Planning Paralegal for a prominant firm in Troy.Salary: $75,000Assist attorneys throughout various stages of probate, trust administration, and estate planning matters.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estate Planning:
- Utilize HotDocs software to draft estate planning documents such as Wills, Trusts, and Durable Powers of Attorney for clients.
- Prepare gift tax planning documents, including irrevocable trusts, and associated paperwork.Trust Administration:
- Create fiduciary income tax returns for trusts and communicate tax liabilities to beneficiaries using IRS Schedules K-1.
- Draft gift tax returns and maintain a comprehensive calendar system for tax deadlines.
- Assess assets for valuation purposes and compile inventories, accountings, and final settlement documents for estates and trusts.
- Facilitate asset transfers into trusts, managing tasks like bank account transfers, stock transactions, and real estate deed processing.
- Manage financial records of trusts and correspond with grantors and beneficiaries as needed.Guardianship/Conservatorship:
- Prepare petitions to initiate proceedings, personal well-being reports, notices, and closing documents.
- Handle accountings for guardianship and conservatorship matters.
- Conduct preliminary asset valuations for wards/conservatees.Estate Administration:
- Maintain a detailed calendar system for estate administration deadlines and court appearances.
- Obtain wills and file necessary documents for probate proceedings, liaising with court personnel and identifying interested parties.
- Coordinate with out-of-state attorneys for ancillary proceedings, such as property transfers and insurance benefit inquiries.
- Manage publication of creditor notices and review creditor claims.
- File life insurance and other death benefit claims.
- Gather and review financial records, prepare tax returns, and collect documentation for tax audits.SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Proficiency in online legal research tools and resources.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to work autonomously.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HotDocs.
- Experience with tax software programs.EDUCATION:
