Offer DescriptionWe are looking to fill an opening for a PhD position to work jointly at the University of Rennes, France, and TotalEnergies Research&Technology, Feluy, Belgium. The work will be essentially based in our research laboratories at the University of Rennes ( ) with some activities conducted at and in partnership with TotalEnergies OneTech Feluy ( ).The project is industrially-driven; it focuses on the development of new catalytic strategies for “dual site catalyst technology”, that is a system made of two different molecular catalysts, amenable to work together in a single reactor, for preparing in a one-pot/one-step multimodal, tailored polyolefins that feature improved thermo-mechanical and processing properties, amenable to a more reasonable use of fossil resources and plastics. The work to be developed within the PhD thesis involves - to equal extents - (i) organic and organometallic (metallocene) synthesis, and (ii) polymerization catalysis (homogeneous and supported versions), as well as utilization of modern analytical techniques and investigation of structure-reactivity-properties relationships.Funding category: Financement public/privé

PHD title: PhD in chemistry
PHD Country: FranceRequirementsSpecific RequirementsWe are looking for….Applicants must hold a master degree or an equivalent degree (e.g., engineering degree) in molecular chemistry obtained with honors. They must be enthusiastic and show strong interest for synthetic and practical work. A preliminary experience in the field of homogeneous catalysis and/or organometallic synthesis is advantageous but not mandatory. Applicants must be autonomous in interpreting of NMR data. The applicants must be able to carry out bibliographic studies and deliver oral and written presentation of the results, and must have team spirit while also being able to carry out his/her work independently in the laboratory. We offer…Over the course of the 36-month project, the PhD student will acquire skills in organometallic synthesis, synthesis under inert atmosphere, homogeneous (Rennes) and heterogeneous (Feluy) catalysis, reaction mechanisms, material science, and structural (NMR, mass spectrometry, FTIR, X-ray diffraction) analyses.Contract: The position is opened from September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3-year period. The PhD will be an employee of the Université de Rennes (36 month-contract), with a gross salary of ca. 2200 € per calendar month.Additional InformationWork Location(s)Number of offers available 1 Company/Institute Institut des sciences chimiques de Rennes UMR 6226, Université de Rennes 1 Country France City Rennes GeofieldWhere to apply WebsiteContact WebsiteSTATUS: EXPIRED
