Description :About the Job:Under the general supervision of the Administrative laboratory director, Medical Director, each department supervisor, and the Charge tech during off hours and weekends. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital policies and departmental procedures. The Medical Laboratory Technician must be able to multi-task and even though they are assigned to sub-department of the laboratory they must float to areas as needed.The Medical Laboratory Technician will also be responsible for clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, running the tube system and working on the computer registering and ordering reference labs from other healthcare facilities whenever needed.The Medical Laboratory Technician is ultimately responsible to assure specimen collection, quality and timely test resulting and pending resolution. This may involve venipuncture, specimen pick-up, labeling and/or Blood Bank armbands when requested.The Medical Laboratory Technician must have good communication skills when dealing with patients and/or visitors and must show a caring and giving attitude and know that the care of the patient is the most important job. Must be able to work individually but also as a team with the non- technical staff with- in the lab and outside customers of the lab.Education:
  • Associate of Science degree in biology, chemistry, or related sciences.
  • Diploma or transcripts required upon hire.
Experience:
  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Medical Laboratory Technician certification from an accredited program. ASCP Certification or equivalent and Tennessee State License required within 6 months of hire date. If delays are due to to the licensing entity, may be extended to 1 year.
