- Automation expert. In addition to completing assigned tasks, this position requires a willingness, ability, and drive, without being asked, to preemptively seek out continuous improvement opportunities to prevent future issues.
- Provides on-site, off-site, remote support and maintenance (hardware and software) on desktop HMI systems, servers, networking equipment, UPS s, PLC s, VFD s and plant DCS.
- Resolves system problems that may require working with I&E technicians, Production Manager, and outside vendors.
- On call 24/7 to facilitate timely solutions aimed at repair and maintenance issues for automation-related equipment.
- Independently performs root cause analysis, reviews outcomes, and makes recommendations regarding improvements, interfacing with vendors and manufacturers as required.
- Develops, plans, executes, and supports enhancements and continued development of plant automation systems.
- Recommends, plans, and implements capital projects and upgrades to new and existing systems, including installations and testing.
- Trains operators and maintenance personnel as needed. Supports training of operators and maintenance personnel as needed.
- Responsible for completing area audits.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times.
- Responsible to abide by and support all company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.
- BA/BS degree in engineering or related discipline (BSEE degree preferred), required.
- 5 years cement plant experience, preferred.
- 10 years automation experience or equivalent, required.
- Experience with RS Logix/Studio 5000 is required.
- Experience with Modicon PLC is a plus but not required.
- Experience with the tools/software used to manage the technologies associated with control systems such as PLC s, variable frequency drives and interfaces, PID loops, SCADA, and other microprocessor-based equipment.
- Expert knowledge of DCS systems.
- Must be proficient using test instruments, meters, high voltage testers, power tools and hand tools.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting VFDs, DC drives, PLC systems, networking hardware, and computers.
- Ability to read electrical prints required.
- Strong grasp of Instrumentation, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
- Lead the plant automation and process controls.
- Experience supporting or testing LANs, VLANs, Windows Servers and Operator stations.
- Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
- Good analytical problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task, adjust to changing priorities and complete tasks within timelines.
- Keep current with new skills and emerging technologies as pertains to control systems.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Possess good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words.
- Ability to communicate information in speaking.
