- Support Special Education teachers in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students within the school setting.
- Provide direct services, supports, and interventions to students under the guidance of Ed Specialists/Special Education teachers.
- Assist in developing curriculum modifications and instructional materials.
- Facilitate testing accommodations, including supervision and extended time.
- Implement IEPs with fidelity, offering 1:1 classroom support, toileting assistance, and health and physical-related aid (e.g., medicine administration, feeding support, lifting, mobility) under supervision.
- Design and implement individualized instructional materials and assist in differentiated instruction, including parallel teaching, small groups, and one-on-one sessions.
- Collaborate with the IEP team, professionals, teachers, and administrators to assess student progress.
- Aid students in assignments and projects and understand classroom rules.
- Participate in district-wide testing, meetings, and professional development.
- Support transitions and supervise lunch, recess, and field trips.
- Implement strategies to improve behavior, communication, and social skills.
- Monitor classroom dynamics, address disruptive behavior, ensure safety.
- Attend training for health care, behavior management, and crisis intervention.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Compliant (any one of the following):
- Two years of Higher Education study (48 college units)
- Associate's degree
- Pass an assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
- Successful completion of a Paraprofessional Skills Examination.
- Preferred: Experience working with students in special education with moderate/severe needs.
- Preferred: Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Basic knowledge of English, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and arithmetic skills, including algebra and geometry.
- Physical ability for work with students including mobility, strength for lifting, and stamina to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
- Familiarity with students demonstrating mild-moderate and moderate-severe needs.
- Knowledge of child cognitive development and diverse learning styles.
- Ability to implement students' individualized education programs with minimal supervision.
- Ability to address individual instructional needs of special education students.
- Maintain student information confidentiality.
- Prioritization skills, self-motivation, follow directions, and handle stressful situations with good judgment.
- Effectively communicate with SPED teachers/specialists and GE staff.
