Murphy)CampusQueensJob SummaryThe Academic Advisor will help in the academic advisement, registration, and observation of students' progression in the nursing program. The advisor will also assist with ongoing assessment and data entry linked to all associated processes and assist in the general activities of the Office of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Participate in the advisement of students in the Nursing ProgramMaintain appropriate student records and other needed information and documentation by utilizing Banner, Electronic File Cabinet (EFC), Xtender, DegreeWorks, Canvas, and other appropriate softwareAssist in the processing of potential transfer studentsUtilize databases to track all students advised in a longitudinal fashionAssist in the tracking and analyzing the progression of students, particularly those who are having academic difficultyDevelop written academic success plans for select students for submission to the progression subcommittees for the nursing programProvide academic counseling for program changes and schedulingAssist in student recruitment efforts of the CollegeComplete reports and student evaluations as required by internal and external associates including accrediting agenciesAssist/participate in student-oriented events and services sponsored by the College and/or UniversityRepresent the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on various University Committees as requestedServe as a liaison to other units and support services throughout the UniversityParticipate in event during the evenings and weekends as required for special programs and eventsComplete special projects as assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean, or designee(s)CompetenciesRequired qualifications skillsGraduate degree in education, counseling, or another related fieldEffective oral and written communication skillsAbility to work well with others at various levelsKnowledge of Microsoft OfficePreferred skillsMinimum of 3-5 years of experience in higher education working directly with college students (nursing advisement preferred)Knowledge of Banner, DegreeWorks, Xtender, and CanvasProficiency in Microsoft Excel and WordWork EnvironmentProfessional office environment utilizing standard office equipmentPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkFull-time positionMonday – Thursday 830 – 430pm, Friday 830 – 3 pmWork outside of normal business hours may be required for special eventsPosition located on Queens campusRequired Education and ExperienceMaster’s degree requiredPreferred Education and Experience3-5 years working in higher education working directly with college students preferably in nursing, health sciences, or STEM fieldsOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.
