JOB DESCRIPTION Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach Description: The role of Head Coach in The Sault Ste. Marie Boys Basketball program is multifaceted, requiring not only a deep understanding of the game's skills and strategies but also a commitment to developing the character and sportsmanship of players and staff. Effective communication, strong organizational abilities, and a robust leadership style are essential qualities for a candidate to successfully manage and advance the program within the competitive realm of interscholastic athletics.Qualifications:
1. A minimum of one year of varsity head or assistant coaching experience is preferred.
2. Previous head coaching experience at varsity level is preferred.
3. Possess a great love of the sport and high interest in helping individuals reach their highest potential.
4. Good role model for student-athletes
5. Current knowledge of rules, fundamentals, teamwork, and the ability to relate to and teach teenage students.
6. Strong commitment to building a successful program for student-athletes.
7. Evidence of successful coaching experience at the varsity level preferred
8. Evidence of expertise in teaching the fundamentals of individual skills and team play.
9. Evidence of the ability to develop a successful program.
10. Strong interpersonal skills
11. Strong organizational skillsResponsibilities: The Varsity Head Coach is responsible for managing the boys’ basketball program. This includes ensuring compliance with educational and safety standards, coaching, and mentoring at various levels, fostering a constructive environment, coordinating seasonal activities, record-keeping, communication, program development for younger students, financial oversight, and fundraising initiatives. Each task contributes to the holistic development and success of the basketball program. 1. Annual rules education, CPR Certification, and adhering to all MHSAA guidelines. 2. Select, instruct, and coach the team through the season at practices and contests. 3. Oversee the development of players at the freshman and junior varsity levels. 4. Create a positive learning experience for all members of the team. 5. Establish a summer competition and camp schedule. 6. Maintain all records, statistics, and awards information. 7. Maintain ongoing communication with players, parents, and media. 8. Organize and run the elementary basketball program 4th-6th grade. 9. Monitor program budget. 10. Devise and implement a fundraising structure for the boys’ basketball program.Terms of Employment: Based on Winter Sports Season (November - March)Salary: $4,200.00
