Nine (9) Month Position
Salary Range: $19.77 – $25.04GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Work directly with students who need special assistance during their transportation to and from school. Duties include supervising and overseeing the safety, security, and well-being of the students, Responsible for assisting students in specialized areas of need such as; basic skills, personal care needs, and specialized health and/or behavior needs as identified by the district. This position also requires helping students with assistance on and off the bus and in and out of a wheelchair.QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently hold or have the ability to obtain an Educational Aide Permit REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to accurately follow directions.
  • Training and/or experience with students with special needs.
  • Training and/or experience which indicates a basic knowledge of the nature and needs of children with specialized health and/or behavior needs.
  • Ability to work with school staff and parents.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced sometimes hectic atmosphere.
  • Willingness to implement specific discipline/behavioral management plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift, position, apprehend and restrain students.
  • Willingness to support and encourage individual students.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Understanding of confidentiality of information about students and all school matters.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist students on and off the bus.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of students in wheelchairs or special needs students.
  • Assist with lifting students when necessary.
  • Assist with discipline.
  • Assure the seat belts and other safety restraining devices are used and securely fastened.
  • Discusses problems which arise with Transportation Supervisor, School Principals, Bus Drivers and Parents.
  • Assist students who become ill.
  • Make and prepare routes as needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists co-workers as required.
  • Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be required.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS AND PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORK CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional interaction among unruly students.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Lifting and positioning students.
