- Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of exempt organization information and unrelated business income tax returns; corporate income tax returns including a mixed consolidated group return and multi-state returns; and state and local non-income tax filings.
- Ensure accurate, timely filing of tax and information returns and other business-related filings including community benefits and theoretical tax reporting.
- Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the tax team.
- Review GAAP and statutory income tax provisions, estimated tax payments, account reconciliations and system community benefits reports on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare annual income tax forecasts and projections for system financial planning and analysis.
- Facilitate tax schedule requests and other inquiries from the system’s external auditors.
- Maintain effective control procedures over the system tax function.
- Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in system tax procedures.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team, and help create strategies to capitalize on changes to tax legislation.
- Research and advise on system income, employment, sales, property, gross receipts and excise tax matters and maintain thorough documentation to substantiate positions.
- Communicate with federal, local, and state taxing authorities on issue resolution.
- Collaborate on system initiatives with potential tax implications.
- Identify opportunities to minimize the system’s tax burden.
- Mentor and develop staff members.
- A bachelor’s degree in an accounting-related field and a current CPA license are required.
- Exempt organization and public accounting experience is preferred; healthcare or insurance industry experience is a plus
- 3-5 years of related experience required
