AVCMHA provides State funded public mental health services to Iosco, Ogemaw, and Oscoda counties in northern Michigan. Requirements:
  • BA degree in Human Services or related field, preferred or
  • AA degree in Human Services or related field acceptable to Accreditation Body with three years supervisory experience and working in behavioral health
  • Minimum six months of sustained recovery, two years preferred.
The Peer Support Specialist is an individual with an understanding of and respect for an individual’s unique path to recovery. Using lived experience with behavioral health issues, intellectual/developmental challenges, and/or substance use recovery, Peer Support Specialists must have a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community and will guide, coach and mentor others who are working towards recovery. Peer Support Specialist will provide valuable support and experiential knowledge based on their own wellness and recovery, to deliver cost-effective services, and to act as role models to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences to help provide a welcoming atmosphere, skills training and instruction to individuals to develop an authentic peer-to-peer relationship. Peer Support Specialist will work within a whole health integration program, increasing awareness of the recovery issues and working to create a strong peer support network that encourages mental health consumers to make a positive healthy lifestyle change. Will coordinate and/or co-facilitate groups to include recovery issues, coping strategies, wellness tools and other resources.
