- Organizes and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in construction, repair and maintenance of the hospital’s physical plant and equipment with or without supervision from the Facilities Director.

- Repairs and maintains: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, ice machines, kitchen equipment, patient beds, furniture, vacuum systems, medical gas systems, emergency diesel powered generating and transfer cases.
- Performs general building maintenance including carpentry, painting, plastering, and minor construction projects.
- Assist with the Equipment Management Plan.
- Makes building rounds and is consistently alert to needed repairs, replacements and unsafe conditions.
- Operates a motor vehicle.
- Reads, understands and uses technical specifications and catalogs for the installation, repairing and completing preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains logs and records maintenance repairs or alterations to equipment.
- Performs electrical safety checks on equipment, electrical outlets and fixtures.
- Performs inspections of the Fire alarm System including fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems.
- Knows basic computer skills.
- Uses proper safety precautions and personal equipment.
- Follows all JCAHO, Life Safety Code, California Building Code, and NFPA guidelines and regulations.
- Occasionally required to work other than normal hospital hours as assigned including overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Frequently required to work on call weekends, holidays or as assigned.

- Education: Education and/or job related experience dealing with electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural engineering issues.
- Experience: Experience in public or health care facility general maintenance.
- Licenses/Certifications: CA driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the District’s vehicle insurer.
- Skills/Ability: Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry.
