We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.A Day in the Life of an Engineer II/IIIYou are at the forefront of the brainstorming of creative solutions for challenging projects alongside an interdisciplinary team. You will have access to state-of-the-art tools and resources. You use programs such as AutoCAD or MicroStation to fulfill production work on your projects. You will work with other staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents; and work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. Your job can sometimes be challenging, but you get to work with a close-knit team and a broader network of colleagues recognized as national multimodal experts.As a member of a growing team, you will have the opportunity to lead tasks and mentor others as you grow your project management skills.Qualifications of an Engineer II/III
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification required with the intent to obtain a Professional Engineering license within 18 months; preference given to individuals with a PE
  • 3+ years of experience in civil or transportation engineering
  • A broad knowledge base in aspects of street design, including AASHTO and MUTCD standards, with an understanding of what goes into the development of concept drawings, exhibits, civil details, and a PS&E project submittal
  • Experience leading tasks, including coordinating topographic survey, utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layouts
  • Interest in multimodal transportation issues, studies, and design, specifically for bicycle, pedestrian, Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, Vision Zero, and/or transit integration
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Inroads, and/or Geopak
  • Excellent task and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate across disciplines
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
As a plus, please highlight if you have any of the following:
  • Experience preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
  • Experience with construction management of public agency infrastructure
  • Experience with stormwater design and/or using software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow
  • Familiarity working with Northwest Arkansas public transportation agencies and standards

Work Schedule for an Engineer II/III:This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Northwest Arkansas office of Toole Design opened in 2023 and is in downtown Bentonville in Ledger Bentonville on Main Street.
