OverviewThe Paramedic serves as a member of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with other team members to provide care that promotes optimal health. The paramedic utilizes best scientific evidence, protocols, and compassion to assist the care of the patient during their health journey.   • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: 2 years required for ED and CCT, required. 3 years required for Event Medicine, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Paramedic Certification or Degree, required. National Registry for Critical Care Transport or an educational agreement to obtain National Registry within 18 months of hire, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments, required. Current driver's license in appropriate state for Critical Care Transport Departments, required.
  • Additional Skills (required): Must have ability to assess and/or interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age, as well as health and developmental needs. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written documentation. Excellent customer service skills. Possesses the ability to prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Administer and evaluate medication therapies, performs patient transfers and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments. Ability to lift and carry various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, etc. Ability to provide routine care such as start IV's, perform dressing changes, etc. to patients in a timely manner. Ability to perform in critical situations, including administering CPR.
