Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for our Mission Systems Maritime Defense Engineering team located in Windsor Locks, CT. We are a multi-disciplinary team of engineers supporting engineering development programs in fuel cell technology, advanced life support and field support for US Navy and commercial customers. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting system development for maritime defense applications. This role requires technical experience in Systems Engineering of equipment involving thermofluidic and electro-mechanical applications. Typical technically driven tasks in the role include requirements management, concept design including trade studies, modeling and analysis work, control synthesis, verification/validation testing, and support of failure mode and/or root cause analysis efforts. The engineer acts in a central role as part of the Integrated Product Development (IPD) process helping create and mature design solutions from early concept phase through customer qualification, and in some instances fielded fleet operation.The successful candidate will have strong Systems Engineering acumen and have prior experience in the development of one or more complex systems. The solutions provided within the department support critical mission needs including environmental control, power generation, and reactant generation, frequently utilizing fuel cell and electrolyzer technology. Prior experience with hardware and design considerations in one or more of these areas is preferred.Primary Responsibilities:
- Define and compose requirements across varying levels from the overall system, to subsystems, and all the way down to individual components
- Conduct analyses and modeling activities to support compliance verification, understand or predict operational behavior, or aid in requirements definition
- Conceive test plans and participate in hardware testing
- Proactively support system development while both receiving guidance from more senior Engineering leads and being an available support resource for more junior team members
- Collaborate with other engineers and program management throughout the life cycle ensuring compliance status and degree of risk is understood
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
- Travel up to 30% time may periodically be required to support program needs
- Preferred educational background/focus in Systems, Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering
- Prior experience with fuel cell or electrolysis systems
- Experience with systems containing valves, pumps, compressors, fans, heat exchangers, mixers, separators, sensors, and storage tanks
- Previous submarine or spacecraft experience
- Previous knowledge and/or experience with U.S. Navy air revitalization systems and power management systems
