Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.HDR is looking a Design Architect to join a growing team in Kansas City, MO.In the role of Project Design Architect, we'll count on you to:
  • Build awareness of business development activities through engagement with the Director of Sports & Recreation Architecture to:
o Support premarketing efforts, attending industry events, actively engaging in the local design community and acting as a steward of the Sports & Recreation Architecture practice’s mission and vision.
  • Take responsibility for design of architectural projects, including conceptualization, layout, documentation and detailing.
  • Independently coordinate within our multidisciplinary team through multiple phases of a project.
  • Work with senior project leadership, including design, project management, and technical architects to establish owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Conduct work sessions at project site and/or virtually in conjunction with Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines.
  • Coordinate with team members through multiple phases to complete documents on schedule.
  • Review architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Write and edit architectural specifications, and work directly with the owner/client and owner's legal staff to establish and document legal parameters for the construction contract.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders.
  • Incorporate agreed-upon changes into project documents.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Direct the activities of other architectural professionals and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed and requested.
It is critical that the Project Design Architect be able to leverage technology to present and document their ideas. The ability to produce presentation materials and associated documentation is an important component of this position. Therefore, a strong working Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp/ Rhino (or similar), the Adobe Creative suite, and online whiteboard collaboration technologies such as Muro, Conceptboard, or Mural are required.QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Should have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Architecture
  • Experience in the areas of healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities
  • Interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and 3-D Studio Max but not required.
  • Rhino and Grasshopper experience
