Description :HOURLY RANGE: $17.554/hr-$22.638/hrHOSPITAL HOUSEKEEPING ATTENDANTDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent performs a wide variety of cleaning, maintenance and sanitary duties in an assigned unit or area of the hospital. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking supervisory employee of the hospital. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
  • Vacuums, sweeps, mops, buffs offices, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, furniture and equipment;
Uses extension pole, ladder and scaffolds while cleaning walls, ceilings, washing light fixtures, changing drapes, changing cubicle curtains, or other activities; * Shampoos and changes rugs when necessary;
  • Cleans patient rooms where a high degree of cleanliness is required to minimize the possible spread of infection;
  • Collects and transports linens to laundry; returns linens to assigned areas;
  • Gathers and disposes refuse as directed;
  • Cleans public and patient bathrooms, scouring sinks, wet mopping floors, disinfecting toilet bowls, wiping down all surfaces and replenishing necessary supplies;
  • Moves furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks;
  • Maintains supply rooms for housekeeping throughout the facility;
  • Uses a variety of manual and mechanical equipment;
  • Performs housekeeping activities in specialized areas such as the trauma unit, intensive care, cardiac care and emergency room, where sterile conditions must be maintained;
  • Cleans and performs maintenance activities in areas containing scientific apparatus, laboratory supplies, experimental projects and animals;
  • Cleans isolated rooms and bags and disposes of contaminated equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances, ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions; ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time; thoroughness; dependability; physically capable of
performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be able to perform light to
moderately heavy physical labor and be able to read and understand the English language.NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
