We are seeking an outstanding Practice Resource Attorney to join the U.S. Leveraged Finance team —a dynamic and talented group operating in a fast-moving environment in New York. The group represents (i) on the borrower side of the practice, financial sponsors and other private capital firms, as well as their portfolio companies, major corporate clients and some growth equity/emerging companies in debt financing transactions and (ii) on the lender side of the practice, credit funds and other alternative lenders in private credit and capital solutions (or special situations) debt financing transactions. The Practice Resource Attorney will play an instrumental role in helping our lawyers operate more effectively and efficiently, thereby contributing to the group’s ability to continue to foster and grow relationships with our clients and continue to build our brand internally and in the market.Role summary/purpose of jobThe Practice Resource Attorney will play an instrumental role in:
  • supporting the group’s knowledge management initiatives, including managing the group’s training program (including developing and expanding our existing program, working with partners and associates on training content and identifying “hot topics” and/or other areas of importance for training purposes
  • supporting the group’s market trend initiatives, including tracking key debt market developments, and developing and maintaining a database tracking key “market” terms in financing transactions
  • managing the group’s sharepoint site, which among other things will be a repository for precedents, closing sets, training materials, client presentations and the like
  • raising our market profile, including assisting in connection with the preparation of client trainings, articles for internal and external publication and materials for speaking engagements, attending conferences and participation in industry organizations
  • identifying and evaluating technological resources to enhance practice efficiency
  • providing on-going assistance to attorneys on the use of resources and the creation of new resources to support the above.
Key responsibilities and deliverables
  • Work with the business development team to promote client and group initiatives, including client training programs, presentation materials and briefing notes.
  • Work with other practice resource lawyers and the associate learning and development team to help design and deliver training programs for associates and summer associates.
  • Develop, organize and maintain internal sharepoint site, including collecting and uploading (and appropriately tagging) forms, precedents, presentations, memos, training materials and other resources.
  • Stay apprised of changes in applicable laws, market data, and best practices in order to accurately maintain (and in some cases prepare) model forms.
  • Draft blog posts, internal presentations, client presentations and other materials with other lawyers in the team in connection with market and legal developments.
  • Assist with market research into specific transactions and industries.
  • Work with our global leveraged finance knowledge team and other practice support professionals to optimize forms, precedents and other resources and related systems.
  • Communicate important market developments to the US team and, where applicable, global leveraged finance team and/or clients
  • Participation in relevant industry organizations.
  • Attend webinars and/or conferences to increase awareness of the latest legal technology as it is relevant to the Leveraged Finance practice.
Key requirements (Communication/skills/experience)
  • JD required
  • 5+ years of bank loan financing experience in a large law firm with an active leveraged finance practice (preferably with experience representing private capital firms, whether private equity or other investment firms or private credit investors).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Confident and effective communicator and collaborator with various members of the firm, both attorneys and staff.
  • Adaptable to changing business needs.
  • A skillful listener with an open style; good at facilitating discussion.
  • Good networking skills and sharing of ideas and success.
  • Clear and up-to-date understanding of business environment and processes and good working knowledge of the group’s strategy.
  • Ability to think strategically in terms of culture and behavior, business process and technology and tools.
  • Good appreciation of client needs and demands.
  • An understanding of the principles of knowledge management.
  • Appetite for working in a dynamic global law firm in a growing practice.
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $300,000 to $350,000.EEO Statement
