The Lab Coordinator role is integral to the success of scientific research and requires a blend of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team.This is a limited-term position funded for one year, with an excellent possibility for renewal.Responsibilities: This role requires active collaboration with a well-funded consortium of researchers in global health and is responsible for lab operations, resource management, and day-to-day Lab Maintenance. The duties are, but not limited to, as follows:
  • Ordering lab reagents and supplies, managing and maintaining the lab, shipping reagents and lab supplies to international collaborators, obtaining federally mandated export control approvals, receiving packages and ensuring proper storage,
  • Following the lab's safety procedures according to the PSU Environmental Health and Safety protocols. As a vital part of our mission, the lab assistant will strictly adhere to regulatory requirements, ethical guidelines, and institutional policies while cultivating effective communication and interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the lab.
  • Optimize workflow and resource utilization in the lab, including procurement, inventory, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and reagents.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory infrastructure, facilities, instrumentation, IT systems, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and safety guidelines.
  • Monitoring and assisting with undergraduate student researchers
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety protocols and best practices.
Education and Experience: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Any experience in a science related field is desirable. Other skills include the following:
  • Experience working with MS Office 365 and conference software such as Zoom is required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, demonstrated ability for communicating effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in the administration of multidisciplinary programs and/or research administration experience is preferred.
