Performs clerical and receptionist duties. Transcribes and interprets physician orders and maintains resident charts/files. Documents and updates resident information. Maintains confidentiality of resident health information.70% - Works cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team, physicians, residents, families and other community contacts to assure the smooth function of the unit.
  • Interacts with staff, residents, volunteers, visitors and representatives of other agencies.
  • Maintains the clinical record including scanning documents into electronic record (ECS).
  • Transcribes physician's orders, coordinates completion of those orders.
  • Processes admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Is responsible for the clerical function of the unit including census, supply requisitions, data entry in the ECS system, physician round forms, etc.
  • Develops tickler files to track TB tests, lab work, MD visits and DISCUS.
  • Conducts quality assurance audits and completes reports as assigned.
  • Schedules MD appointments in Community and within Facility( including transfer paperwork and transportation
  • Manage Wisconsin Immunization Registry for current and new residents.
10% - Provides education and guidance to other employees.25% - Does Administrative functions.
  • Answers the phone and performs receptionist duties for the unit.
  • Orders and manages supplies.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
  • Self motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the components of the clinical record and the requirements of the relevant nursing home regulations.
  • Knowledge of nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise reports. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Accurate and proficient typist and skill with basic computer software such as Word.
  • Ability to problem solve and to deal with a variety of issues.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, residents, families, professionals and the general public
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Participates in required in-service education programs, fire and disaster drills.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of an approved Unit Clerk Coordinator (Health Unit Clerk) course or related program.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and stoop for periods of time.
  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations
  • Exposure to noise and frequent interruptions.
