SummaryTests and repairs water meters used to record consumption for residential, commercial, or industrial customers.Essential Functions
  • Test and repair water meters used to record consumption for residential, commercial, or industrial customers. Diagnose and correct the cause of meter malfunctions;
  • Coordinate daily workflow of curb-stop crews. Issue assignments and work orders to maximize employee resources with volume of requests. Record completion of work orders in LP&L billing software system. Provide information and answer questions of field personnel;
  • Locate supply sources for parts used in meter repair. Maintain adequate inventory of repair parts;
  • Set, relocate, and remove meters. Test and repair backflow prevention assemblies on fire hydrant meters;
  • Train and assist employees in appropriate methods for testing and repairing water meters in the field;
  • Respond to customer complaints or inquiries regarding water meters. Gather and analyze meter consumption data from LP&L billing system;
  • Perform related duties as required.
QualificationsCompletion of high school diploma or GED with an additional two years experience in testing and repair of various types of water meters; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:Valid Current Driver's LicensePhysical Exam Required
Backflow Assembly Tester
Customer Service Inspector
Texas Driver's license
Class C Water distribution
Must obtain Customer Service Inspector (CSI) certification, Class 'C' Water Distribution license, and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification each within one year of becoming eligible to test.Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
  • American Water Works standards for maintaining, repairing and testing a variety of meters used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings;
  • Inventory control methods;
  • Tools and parts necessary to complete curb-stop repairs;
  • Business computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, plus Crystal Reports and XC2.
Ability to:
  • Test, maintain, and repair a variety of water meters used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings;
  • Accurately read and record meter readings;
  • Evaluate and assess cost of meter repair versus replacement;
  • Maintain adequate meter and parts inventory;
  • Establish and implement inventory controls;
  • Generate and analyze reports on meter consumption to address customer complaints or inquiries;
  • Coordinate the work of others;
  • Provide training on proper methods and techniques of meter testing and repair.

  • Occasionally stand during a shift

  • Frequently kneel and bend during shift
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds

  • Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
