We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Quality department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Quality Assurance Inspector J1 - J4.
Essential Functions and Purpose:
  • Performs predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications for QA inspections and tests required to substantiate conformance to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Conducts surveillance audits in all phases and stages during ship repair.
  • Technical/Associate Degree, preferably Q.A./Marine-related or equivalent, or 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade related.
  • Certified as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (includes VT, PT, MT, and UT) to NAVSEA TECHPUB requirements. If not certified, must be able to be certified if assigned these duties.
  • Certified in accordance with the NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) course, NACE International Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 1 or higher, or SSPC Protective Coating Inspector Program (PCI) Level 2.
  • Knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures including welding, structural, machinery, electrical piping, ventilation and familiarity with various measuring instruments related to inspections.
Required Experience:
  • Must be able to perform the essentials of the position including the ability to work at heights, enter tanks, voids and cofferdams to perform competent person duties.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, work around moving machinery and perform tasks while using a sky climber, scissor lift and/or condor.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standard/specifications, Regulatory Body Requirements, and Shipbuilding Specifications.
  • Possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements
  • Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, and technical manual interpretation.
  • Able to set, self-calibrate and use assigned testing, inspection and QA instruments.
  • Fundamental problem-solving skills. Able to use basic Lean and Six Sigma principles to provide recommended solutions to identified or perceived problems.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of NASSCO and mainframe computer.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness, and good judgment in dealing with others.
