Essential Duties1. Manages operating polices, administrative procedures, long-term goals, needs, and direction for the laboratory. 2. Decides the overall level and responsibilities of staff and oversees the entire laboratory 3. Responsible for the overall financial and operational responsibility for the research laboratory. 4. Develops new methodologies, biotechnologies, determine which scientific techniques will be used, which instruments will be incorporated, and which biotechnology services will be offered 5. Analyzes, develops, interprets, and summarizes scientific results. 6. Solves highly complex methodology, protocol, procedural, and research problems through original design of new protocols, procedures, and experimental approaches that will achieve goals of the research project. 7. Authorizes, organizes, and prioritizes the use of funding, laboratory space, staffing, and equipment resources to ensure timely completion of requested analysis, synthesis, and research projects. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline. The Institute is based at 100 College Street and contains three research centers. The Center for Neurodevelopment and Plasticity stimulates and supports research by Yale investigators on the genetic, molecular, and cellular building blocks of the brain and how they organize themselves into connections and circuits. The position reports to the Managing Director of the Institute, with technical supervision by the Center Director.Working under the direction of the Center Director and in collaboration with faculty from across Yale, this new leadership role creates an “imaging portfolio” for the Institute. The role focuses on the build and maintenance of novel pre-commercial instruments for neuroscience imaging in the Plexus space and the deployment of turnkey instrumentation in the NeuroLux facility. The role is responsible for the overall smooth operations of these facilities and designing resources and initiatives in line with the imaging needs of the diverse Institute community. Major responsibilities include:The design, implementation, troubleshooting and dissemination of new instrumentation. Working with the Center Director and advisors, set and implement priorities for the instrumentation offerings at the Plexus and NeuroLux; Acquire and oversee the installation of sophisticated equipment; Ensure that equipment produces high quality imaging data, with appropriate storage and retrieval capabilities; Assist in the development of data sharing infrastructure for Institute; coordinate data analysis and storage needs with Center for Neurocomputation and Machine Intelligence.Training users on new instrumentation and analyses methods. Provide research and technical support for research projects, studies and experimentation in support of Center research projects; develop and manage resource offerings for members of the Institute; Provide training, technical expertise, and mentorship to users; foster a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific excellence.Interfacing with partners, both academic and industry partners, in securing new equipment and resources, or in designing new instruments or improving on existing instruments. Support the facility's integration with the Institute, the University and the wider research community; assist with other uses of the facility including tours, special presentations, teaching of research methods and other courses, and advising students and other researchers.Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:PhD in engineering, physics or related technical discipline. Five or more years of postdoctoral training in related field.
