Job Description:Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware is seeking Sedation Physician to join our team in Wilmington.Sedation Physician functions as a member of the Sedation Division, Department of Anesthesiology, providing deep and moderate sedation to patients undergoing diagnostic or procedural studies in medical imaging and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for numerous hospital services in the Nemours Children's Hospital Sedation Unit.Expected duties:
  • Evaluate patients prior to sedation and determine appropriate sedation plan for scheduled testing and/or procedure.
  • Discuss sedation options with parents/legal guardian and patients, if appropriate. Obtain consent for appropriate sedation.
  • Communicate with medical/surgical services as needed to coordinate appropriate sedation plan and timing for requested imaging studies and/or procedures.
  • Administer appropriate sedation and analgesic medications to accomplish sedation plan.
  • Coordinate and direct work of sedation nursing staff to provide appropriate sedation care.
  • Monitor patient vitals in coordination with sedation nursing staff throughout sedation and recovery period.
  • Evaluate sedation patients in recovery to determine appropriate timing of discharge from sedation unit.
  • Complete clinical documentation in timely manner in accordance with department requirements.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.
The sedation service at Nemours Children's Hospital has been operating for over 30 years and provides sedation for patients throughout Medical Imaging (including Interventional Radiology) as well as sedation for procedures done by surgical and medical specialists. We operate out of a central sedation unit within medical imaging with 3 sedation induction rooms, 3 anesthesia induction rooms and 8 recovery bays. We have a seasoned group of dedicated sedation nurses, an APN that provides moderate sedation, and sedation nurse schedulers that screen and schedule all sedations. We are fortunate to have an anesthesiologist with two CRNA's embedded in our daily team providing care for anesthesia cases. Applicants must be board certified/eligible in either Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care, or have extensive experience with deep sedation.Pediatric Emergency Medicine applicants may have a part-time position shared with the Division of Emergency Medicine, which cares for over 60,000 patients a year, in our 44-bed state of the art Emergency Department that opened in 2014 as part of a major expansion of the hospital.Nemours Children's Health is an internationally recognized, multi-site pediatric healthcare system built upon a centralized, efficient, and collaborative infrastructure committed to improving the health of all children.
