The Development & Engineering (D&E) Safety & Compliance department is responsible for supporting Global Product Safety & Compliance, Process Safety and Environmental Health & Safety at D&E. The D&E business function is responsible for process and product development within ASML and is mainly located in Veldhoven, Wilton and San Diego (US) and consist of approximately 17.000 employees. The Human Safety in Design group (as part of the Safety & Compliance department within D&E) has the responsibility to correctly embed & verify international safety rules and regulations by assessing procedures, facilitating human safety risk assessments in projects and managing global knowledge & the way of working. In ASML as a safety risk engineer you are in the center of projects and operational engineers.Job DescriptionAs a safety and risk engineer you are responsible for assessing product designs on safety aspects and facilitating human safety risks assessments and/ or HAZOP, LOPA and SIL studies. These assessments are carried out jointly with competence engineers who are organized throughout the entire D&E organization. You execute the interest & progress of safety reviews & safety risk assessments. A deeply rooted principal knowledge of safety & ability to uphold standards on challenging situations is needed to be successful in this role.Key Activities
  • Ensure the proper selection of risk assessment methods to align with the analysis goal and appropriate quality of the assessment concerning both human and technical safety aspects.
  • In Scope of the assessment: (e.g.)
  • Stakeholder management
  • Quality of the input
  • Assess with the project team if the designs are compliant with the ASML safety standards.
  • Use the principal Hierarchy of control.
  • Assess completeness of safety in design
  • Check if prescribed the tooling will be used in a proper manner (e.g. hoisting with standard tooling within the weight load limit (WLL) with sufficient safety margin)
  • Assess completeness of the addressed safety hazards.
  • Assess Risk ranking with the project team
  • Assess system level risk and perform SIL determination.
  • Facilitate & chair risk assessment meeting
  • Facilitate safety risk assessment with ASML software
  • Ensuring the quality of the safety risk assessments by ensuring the presence of the relevant competences (e.g. Human factors, Lifting, Gas safety, High pressure, Laser safety)
  • Ensuring the deliverables are completed by the projects
  • Reporting via the available software tooling the identified & mitigated risks
  • Provide results (mail, face to face meetings or by visiting actual situation) to projects & engineer
  • Involve and align with safety competences.
  • Share knowledge incl. best practices with direct colleagues and engineers across ASML
  • Support in the further developments/improvements of means and methods to ensure human safety in design.
Position in the organizationThe safety risk engineer reports to the Grouplead Human Safety in Design. He/she frequently interacts with team members of the D&E safety, ME/EE group leads, ASML D&E employees and D&E Safety representatives and EHS global organization.Education & Experience
  • Bachelor/Master in Safety Engineering
  • Experience in machine safety and functional safety design. Having a functional safety/machine safety certificate is a plus.
  • Typically, 2-5 years’ experience in product development/ engineering organizations
  • 2- 5 years- experience in HAZOP/LOPA participation, able to do HAZOP/LOPA/ SIL facilitation is a plus
