Offer DescriptionHepatitis C virus (HCV) causes chronic liver disease (CHC) and hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV hijacks metabolic processes to promote viral replication, resulting in metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance (IR), and hepatic steatosis. Furthermore, CHC is influenced by the patient's metabolic homeostasis (e.g. obesity and IR), which may worsen after HCV eradication: direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) effectively eradicate HCV but cause weight gain and worsen further metabolism/liver damage. This project will explore the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction between CHC cofactors (HCV genotype, residual liver damage, obesity/IR, lifestyle, genetic background) and the remodeling of systemic/hepatic metabolism.RequirementsAdditional InformationEligibility criteriaEligible destination country/ies for fellows:
