SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Secretariat Director and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, this position is responsible for providing oversight, coordination, and support to Catholic schools ensuring that aspects of academic excellence meet the requirements of the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops, the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools, and the Archdiocese. This position oversees the work of the Academic Excellence Team (AET), which is comprised of the Director of Instruction and Professional Development and the Director of Student Support Services. In addition, this position serves as a member of the Catholic Schools Office leadership team and the Archdiocesan Advisory School Council (AASC).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.
Academic Excellence Team (AET)
  • Plan and facilitate regular meetings of the AET
  • Collaborate with AET to define, monitor, and evaluate annual goals, driven by the Archdiocesan mission and vision as well as the specific vision for academic excellence
  • Provide direct supervision, support, and guidance for the Director of Instruction and Professional Development in accomplishing goals and completing work related to instruction, professional development/learning, federal programs, etc.
  • Provide direct supervision, support, and guidance for the Director of Student Support Services in accomplishing goals and completing work related to guidance, counseling, health and well-being, services for students with exceptional learning needs, etc.
  • Establish and support collaborative committees to address specific needs and programming related to academic excellence
Curriculum and Instruction
  • Facilitate development and ongoing review and revisions of Archdiocesan curriculum documents and their components
  • Identify and coordinate professional development/learning for administrators and teachers encouraging implementation of professional learning communities (PLCs)
  • Provide varied support for schools related to academic excellence as requested
  • Oversee the STREAM Synergy initiative in schools
  • Oversee the implementation of the Teacher Growth and Renewal Framework
  • Support development and implementation of academic competitions for students
Standardized Assessment/Testing
  • Serve as liaison between standardized assessment/testing vendor and the Catholic Schools Office
  • Schedule and manage standardized assessment/testing program promoting the use of student data to inform, and provide for continuous improvement in student growth and teacher performance (assessment windows, NWEA meetings and documents to share results, annual renewal, etc.)
  • Identify and coordinate professional development/learning for administrators and teachers encouraging implementation of professional learning communities (PLCs)
  • Provide assistance to schools in interpreting, and utilizing standardized assessment/test data as requested
  • Communicate Archdiocesan data/results to stakeholders and the public
Support for Cohort Schools
  • Build positive working relationships with principals, and pastors providing guidance and support for programming, growth, operations, and conflict resolution
  • Conduct regular school visits
  • Support cohort leader in their duties and participate in cohort meetings
  • Support schools in developing and implementing key tasks such as the accreditation self-study and strategic plan related to academic excellence
  • Approve TCCB ED Education and Content Deficiency Removal Plans
  • Respond to written and verbal inquiries from various sources regarding but not limited to personnel, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental concerns seeking a positive resolution
Catholic Schools Office
  • Collaborate in the development and updating of operational materials such as the Administrators’ Handbook, AET annual budget, annual calendar, website, strategic plan, etc.
  • Serve as liaison for the Bishop Byrne Chapter of the Catholic Library Association
  • Assist with planning, and conducting Catholic Schools Office events, and meetings, facilitating as needed
Other
  • Seek and participate in professional development/learning that supports work in academic excellence
  • Collaborate with other Chancery departments to support schools
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Secretariat Director and Superintendent of Catholic Schools

Leadership; Collaboration; Organization; Confidence; Creativity; Critical-thinking; Problem-solving; Strong oral and written communication; Able to operate various computer and networking systems; Working with school staff; Teaching adults; Talking to leaders on matters such as school governance, school choice, budgets; and developing educational programs.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Doctoral Degree in Catholic School Leadership or Education preferred with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a Catholic school setting, including three (3) of these years in an administrative capacity. This position must be held by a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church who is committed to the mission of Catholic education and continued faith formation.
