  • Plan and oversee the day-to-day training and development of student-athletes in the following track and field areas: multi-events, pole vault, and high jump. Provide secondary coaching to other track and field/cross country coaching staff as directed by the head coach.
  • Work with the Equipment Manager to plan and complete all equipment (non-uniform) purchases for assigned events.
  • Responsible for inventory control and the storage of all track and field equipment used by assigned event groups.
  • Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of all track and field/cross country student-athletes in the event group in consultation with the head coach and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support Services.
  • Assist head coach with recruiting qualified student-athletes in compliance with all applicable NCAA and conference regulations. This includes identifying and contacting prospects, maintaining contact with high school coaches, making recruiting phone calls, assisting with recruiting correspondence and recruiting record keeping, assisting with official and unofficial campus visits by prospects and their family members, assisting with home visits, and evaluating prospects off-campus.
  • Assists head coach with all other administrative aspects of the track and field/cross country program, including but not limited to general program planning, strategizing, and goal setting, NCAA rules compliance, student-athlete retention and eligibility monitoring, student-athlete wellness, budget planning and preparation, team travel planning and coordination, fundraising, alumni relations, and internal/external community relations, team statistical record keeping, running of camps, and daily communication with various members of the athletic department support staff.
  • Attends all departmental, divisional, and University-wide meetings and events as required.
  • Promotes the educational values of the University and intercollegiate athletics, consistent with the University and Department of Athletics Mission Statements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to coach competitive intercollegiate athletes as well as a desire to develop nationally competitive student-athletes in multi-events, pole vault, and high jump.
  • Previous competitive experience at the intercollegiate level or beyond preferred.
  • Previous Intercollegiate coaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Candidates with recruiting experience preferred.
  • USATF/USTFCCCA coaching certifications of any level are preferred.
Unusual Working ConditionsThe candidate must possess the advanced technical skills to plan and implement training programs and skill instruction for student-athletes in various track and field events. This includes the ability to work successfully with student-athletes at all different levels of skill development and conditioning.
