If so, please read on!ABOUT LEA COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVEOur cooperative came to fruition in 1949 after a group of Lea County citizens banded together to develop an electrical service for people in rural areas not powered by the central station. In the beginning, we established 136 miles of electrical distribution lines that served around 1,250 consumers. Through technological advances and modern updates, we've greatly expanded our services to power more than 7,000 consumers with over 4,300 miles of energized lines. Now, we provide energy to portions of six counties in New Mexico and Texas. Additionally, we provide our team with great wages, generous benefits, and a supportive, friendly work environment.Responsibilities * Monitor and control system loads, voltages, etc., through the operation of control room metering panels, SCADA system and PC software programs.
  • Interpret and evaluate system conditions and take appropriate actions: direct switching, transferring or shedding load. Determine probable cause and location of outages and direct the appropriate personnel in the restoration of power.
  • Prepare switching orders and issue clearances upon receiving approved switching orders. Cancel any clearances or stop any system switching deemed unsafe to personnel or system equipment.
  • Coordinate switching with power supplier, engineering and field personnel.
  • Plan and implement emergency switching and assist in developing normal operation switching procedures.
  • Maintain radio communication with field personnel at all times and record accurate logs of communications to and from field personnel.
  • Answer customer outage calls in a courteous and friendly manner and obtain information necessary to assist in restoring customer service, resolving operational complaints, etc. Notify affected customers of scheduled outages.
  • Maintain and update database for outage reporting.
  • Communicate with civil organizations (law enforcement, fire department, city, county and state officials) during outages and emergencies.
  • Develop and assist in maintaining medical alert listing of customers dependent on life-sustaining equipment.
  • Generate weekly and monthly reports for management and accounting department on power use, outages, etc.
