The job of Child Nutrition Secretary (elementary) is done for the purpose/s of executing the activities and functions of the school food service program; providing a wide variety of support processes for food services at school site; establishing and maintaining records; compiling and distributing materials and reports; assisting the building Principal; and responding to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources.This job reports to Building Administrator.Essential Functions
  • Assist school site personnel (e.g. Head Secretary, Principal, Child Nutrition Coordinator, etc.) for ensuring professional assistance, as requested.
  • Handle financial transactions (e.g. daily cafeteria receipts, etc.) for preparing reports and ensuring completion of school site nutrition processes.
  • Implement breakfast and lunch support processes (e.g. tracking sales, counting monies and preparing deposits, receiving and screening lunch applications, sending notices for negative accounts and developing pay agreements, etc.) for ensuring optimal operation of breakfast and lunch at school site.
  • Maintain applications (e.g. processing Child Nutrition benefits, etc.) for providing proper notification and eligibility.
  • Manage central office communication (e.g. all students, staff, parents, and public, in person, by phone, or electronic inquiry, etc.) for ensuring timely response, and/or referral to appropriate individual.
  • Manage food service records for ensuring accuracy of eligibility and daily food service count.
  • Perform central office support activities (e.g. compiling attendance, typing, managing phones, assisting students and teachers, assisting with enrollment, filing free and reduced lunches reports, handling bills for cafeteria, maintaining required records, etc.) for ensuring completion of central office processes.
  • Prepare a variety of reports (e.g. food service reports, secondary cash reports, reconciliation reports, daily records of lunches served, food service daily income record, secondary cash records, yearly audit reports, etc.) for documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  • Process a variety of documents and materials (e.g. accurate applications of Child Nutrition Program benefits, notification of eligibility, daily and monthly food service reports, etc.) for ensuring accurate historical documentation.
  • Train staff (e.g. secretaries, etc.) for providing information, processes, and functionality to new employees.
Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing.
