SUMMARYThe Lab Technician will evaluate raw elastomer material and finished product conformity by measuring or otherwise comparing product to customer requirements. This individual will document their findings in the materials database and create test reports. The Lab Technician will work with Quality, Purchasing, Production, and Engineering departments to ensure product compliance.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handle all incoming elastomer receivables (raw materials) from outside vendors and Son-Aero mix batches by logging them into the database, assigning lot numbers (if applicable), and maintaining shelf-life records.
  • Verify purchase order requirements and process paperwork.
  • Read and interpret material standards and specifications.
  • Perform ASTM test methods by utilizing lab test equipment and measurement tools.
  • Coordinate outside testing for test methods exceeding lab capabilities.
  • Write material qualification and acceptance test reports.
  • Process materials or parts received that do not meet purchase order requirements by contacting the vendor or outside processor.
  • Request documentation corrections or missing documentation from vendors.
  • Perform shelf-life extension testing as required by customer or Son-Aero requirements.
  • Participate in AS9100 and customer audits where applicable.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, lot traceability, and shelf-life management.
  • ASTM elastomer test methods and their use.
  • Operation of lab test equipment - tensiometer, lab mill, lab press, lab oven, compression set fixtures, aging blocks, burn test chamber, salt fog chamber.
  • Basic math skills and formulas as required per customer and industry specifications.
  • Preferred (Not Required) Areas of Knowledge
  • Color matching of inorganic polymers per FED-STD-595
  • Elastomer ingredients and compound formulation
