Description :Come join our life-changing team building hope, resilience and well-being as a Staff Accountant!Shift Details: Full-time - 40 hours/weekCompensation: $50,000-$55,000 annual salaryLocation: Hybrid – Metro Offices 7625 Metro Blvd, Edina, MN 55439About the job:Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in contributing to the overall financial health of VOA of MN & WI. The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for cash management oversight, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, collections, contributing to the month-end close and providing general ledger support.Essentials:
  • Cash Management – Manages the organizational cash application process for multiple accounts and programs. Posts daily deposits, withdrawals, and transfers from various sources, including checks, wire transfers, credit card, and electronic payments. Prepares routine journal entries, monthly bank account reconciliations, and investigates and resolves any cash discrepancies. Monitors bank activity and provides insights and recommendations to support cash management decisions.
  • Accounts Receivable and Collections - Collaborates with Accounts Receivable, Grant Accounting, Mission Development, and various program service teams to ensure timely and accurate billing and collections processes. Accurately applies cash receipts to customer accounts in Sage Intacct, ensuring proper allocation and adherence to company policies. Investigates and resolves account discrepancies related to cash and accounts receivable.
  • Month-End Close - Assists in the preparation of month-end closing activities, including journal entry preparation. Reconciles monthly bank accounts and monitors accounts receivable, collections, and donor deposit activity. Collaborates with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate financial reports.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives to streamline cash application procedures and enhance efficiencies.
  • Provides annual independent audit support and prepares related documentation requests.
  • Maintains knowledge of generally acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs general accounting and reporting activities.

Job Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business required
  • Two years of job-related experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills with an emphasis in Excel
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability and willingness to learn and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proven time management and organizational skills to meet established deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business - or a comparable combination of experience and education
  • Proficient with Sage Intacct Cash Management accounting software
  • The ideal candidate will be 'self-starter' capable of working independently, takes initiative to identify and resolve issues, and effectively manages competing priorities
