Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two tyears of experience in perioperative services is preferredl
Essential FunctionsMaterials/Sterile Core Technician
  • Receive and unpack supplies as they are received or deliver to or notify department
  • Keep all storage areas clean and organized.
  • Deliver and stock supplies for all departments (OR to include cast cart when needed, PACU/Pre-Op, Med Surg, Materials Room, Ancillary Room.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Pull all surgical cases as directed by the OR Charge Nurse.
  • Check for monthly outdates in materials/ancillary rooms.
  • Participate with Quarterly and Yearly inventory activities.
  • Check surgery schedule for changes/cancellations.
  • Return any surgical supplies to their designated areas if a case is canceled.
  • Promote cost containment by utilizing equipment and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  • Notify supervisor in advance of supply or equipment issues.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Operating Room Assistant (ORA)
  • Performs room turnover between cases in an efficient manner, following Universal Blood and Body Fluid (UBBF) precautions and utilizing Personal Protective Eyewear (PPE).
  • Performs terminal cleaning of OR suites following a predetermined schedule on a rotational basis using PPE and following UBBF Guidelines.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, orderliness, and appearance of substerile rooms and scrub sink areas.
  • Monitors the surgery schedule and watches par levels in supply and patient care areas.
  • Practices safe working methods and universal precautions; utilizes PPE to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Is familiar with precautions and handles hazardous material in such a way to protect self and coworkers.
  • Is familiar with the principles of Aseptic Technique and maintains a safe distance from the sterile field when performing job functions in the OR environment.
  • Dons appropriate surgical attire within the semi-restricted and restricted areas of the OR which includes surgical scrubs, hair covering, and masks where indicated.
  • Understanding of traffic patterns is displayed.
  • Promotes cost containment by utilizing equipment and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  • Assists in the safe transfer and transport of patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Assist with patient positioning under the direction of an RN or Physician.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provides anesthesiologist support as a physician extender and part of the patient care team.
  • Is familiar with anesthesia machines and is responsible for maintaining proper working order of the machines.
  • Performs any other duties assigned.
