Client is searching for an Assistant Chief Engineer (Maintenance Manager) for a commercial laundry operation in Lincolnwood, IL (in the Chicago area).Job Summary:As an Assistant Chief Engineer you're a leader of the maintenance department where you will develop and facilitate mechanical needs between all departments. The Assistant Chief Engineer will guide the maintenance team by providing training, direction and leadership.Schedule: 7am-5pm Monday through FridayDuties and Responsibilities:
  • Safety is Priority #1. Ensure a safe working environment, and protection of all company assets
  • Manage and train the maintenance staff
  • Responsible for supervising repairs and maintenance of industrial washers, dryers, boilers, compressors, conveyors, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair equipment, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure that PMs, minor fine tuning of laundry systems, and major project work are completed efficiently and in a timely basis.
  • This leader will troubleshoot, install equipment, analyze and repair complex mechanical and electrical faults, including compressed air operated machines with little supervision.
  • Maintain all safety policies and good housekeeping.
  • Responsible for inventory control and purchasing of equipment, parts and maintain department budget.
  • Order parts by cross-referencing to local vendors.
  • Plans, organizes, and controls functions and activities of plant operations and building renovations.
  • Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitors work performance and prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
  • Interview, select, hire, develop, train and progressively counsel (if necessary) all direct reports in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for all direct reports at least annually and establish goals and objectives that are measurable.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years laundry maintenance experience with specific knowledge of machinery, electricity, electronics, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welder and boiler applications.
  • Must have a preventive maintenance mindset, and experience managing a PM program in this industry or a similar industry.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience is required. Proven ability to lead and train a team of maintenance technicians.
  • Strong background in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills as well as completion of trade school or certificate programs.
  • Able to read blueprints and electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Prior experience negotiating/dealing with outside vendors to get parts at best price and in the most expeditious manner.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
