What you'll doThe Exercise Specialist develops an appropriate exercise and education program for cardiac and pulmonary patients. Designs individualized strength, balance and flexibility programs, monitors patients’ responses to exercise and ensures safety.
- Acts as a primary resource in the area of exercise physiology and is responsible for assisting with the implementation of all phases of the Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
- Responsible for providing wellness assessments, individual or group exercise programs, program development, program implementation, instruction and guidance following the plan-of-care and treatment of patients.
- Ensures quality of service.
- Demonstrates knowledge of patient’s medical status and needs by updating an exercise prescription based on clinical status, neuromuscular disorders and orthopedic problems.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the implications of exercise and patient’s response to increasing intensities of exercise in persons with cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease and/or metabolic diseases.
- Participates through a team approach in the development and implementation of a treatment plan.
- Correctly interprets graded exercise test for initiation of exercise and exercise progression.
- Applies motivational techniques and scientific principles of conditioning.
- Completes all outcome measurements by showing proper documentation.
- Evaluates programs by assessing the progress of patients.
- Promotes a healthy lifestyle for patients.
- Adapts programs for patients by assessing personal learning needs of each patient.
- Aids in lifestyle modifications and relaxation techniques by providing and/or encouraging patients to attend educational sessions.
- Demonstrates competence in responding to emergencies that may arise during or after exercise.
- Maintains appropriate clinical records, and consistently documents participant/program data in the designated areas.
- 4 year / Bachelor's B.S. in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health, or a related field, required
- Minimum 1 year experience in cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation programs, required
- Experience in design and development of fitness, programs for special populations, preferred
- Experience working in an exercise or health related field, preferred
- BLS certification, required
- ACLS certification within 6 months of hire, required
- ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification, preferred
- NSCA CSCS, CSPS or equivalent certification, preferred

Pay RangeSalary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
