This position is responsible for researching and interpreting State Statutes, as well as opening, processing and maintaining Clerk of Courts files.SUPERVISION
This position acts as a lead worker to the departments Administrative Clerk(s) and Student Worker positions.SCHEDULEDays: 5Work Hours: 40Hours Per Shift: 8Shifts Per Pay Period: 10Position FTE: 1.0Applications are being accepted from Walworth County employees and members of the public.This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.Update records ensuring accuracy and validity of information.Maintain electronic and paper records ensuring information is organized and easily accessible. Locate case relevant information.Handle confidential documents ensuring they remain secure.Answer phones and wait on customers at the counter.Clerk in court weekly - taking minutes/notes while court is in session.Monitor payments of attorney fees.Enter ordinances and dispose of citations as needed.Issue transcripts, executions, exemplified copies and certificates.Transfer cases in which venue has changed.Prepare files for appeal.Prepare quarterly reports.Ensure operations adhere to policies and regulations.Monitor deadlines and provide timely reminders. Schedule and plan meetings; maintain and prioritize all workflow. Ensure the smooth and adequate flow of information.Assist public with copies and information.Check bail/bonds and judgments if requested.Schedule motions and clerk if necessary.Back-up Calendar Clerks and other Deputy Clerk positions.Back-up all courts when necessary.Assist colleagues whenever necessary.Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school plus two additional years of formal preparation and two to three years of relevant prior experience; or some formal preparation with a minimum of four years of directly related legal experience. Proven experience in ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well as ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Proven experience with legal terminology.Interactions & Communication
