The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina's wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The NCWRC employs 700 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division employs over 200 Wildlife Officers who patrol fields, forests, and inland waters at all hours, in all 100 North Carolina counties. These officers ensure public compliance with fishing, wildlife and boating laws and regulations and enforce the conservation of wildlife resources and provide public safety through both proactive law enforcement and the instruction of quality education.The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for a Wildlife Law Enforcement Supervisor I (Special Investigator) for our Law Enforcement Division. The Primary Purpose of this Special Investigator position is to conduct a full range of difficult and complex law enforcement activities through planning, directing, and conducting investigations of persons and/or parties who are suspected of offenses against the criminal laws administered by the Commission and to serve as a liaison between field officers and investigative unit concerning enforcement activities and needs.The Wildlife Law Enforcement Supervisor/Special Investigator will:
  • Work with field officers to solicit information relevant to possible violations of laws administered by the Commission;
  • Maintain liaison with federal, State, and local enforcement authorities for purposes of obtaining, securing or exchanging factual information;
  • Supervise field officers when they are required to assist in special investigations or covert activities;
  • Review case files for court preparation.
  • Act in the absence of the LE manager.
This is a Home-Based position. The workstation for this position is in the employee's home-based office using an agency-provided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space compliant with WRC and State policies.This position has statewide responsibilities. Assignments and projects may be based in any location across the state. This position requires occasional travel and overnight stays.This position will work a rotating shift schedule (Sunday - Saturday), with two days off per week, and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Position will work a minimum of 160 hours per 28-day period. This position performs his/her duties during both day and night hours and in all kinds of weather.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesTo receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form.   • Knowledge of the Wildlife Resources Commission Employee Handbook and the Division of Enforcement Policy Manual.
  • Knowledge of game, fish, and boat laws found in the NC General Statutes, NC Administrative Code, and the US Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the NC Hunter Education program and the NC Boating Education program.
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
