Stark Parks is looking for a student working toward a degree in parks and recreation, forestry, environmental education or working toward a certification as a naturalist who is interested in gaining experience in teaching, program development, and outdoor recreation to a wide range of ages. Successful candidates will assist/lead hikes, outdoor programs and activities, such as kayaking, SUP.Start Date(s):Internship periods can be based on your availability...· Spring (March 1 - May 31)· Summer (June 1 - August 31)· Fall (September 1 - October 31)Time Commitment:12 hours/week, some weekends and evenings. Hours and days will vary. This will be determined by the Education & Programs Manager.Compensation:This is a non-paid, volunteer position for anyone interested in gaining experience in this field while sharing their love and excitement of the outdoors with others.Supervision:The Naturalist Intern will report to the Education & Programming ManagerKnowledge, Skills:The naturalist intern's primary responsibility is to support the Education Staff and in turn will gain knowledge in the following areas...▪ Will learn about the flora and fauna of the Great Lakes region▪ Assisting and Teaching Outdoor Education programs in the field and in classrooms▪ Public Speaking▪ Writing & Program Development▪ Organizational skills, verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict managementWorking Conditions:As typical with this type of work, conditions vary with the environment, weather and as other circumstances warrant.
