The Department is tasked with licensing and regulating adult use cultivation centers, cannabis craft growers, cannabis infusers, cannabis transporters, and Community College Vocational Cannabis Pilot Programs. The Division of Cannabis Regulation is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a working supervisor of the Design and Construction Section. The Design & Construction Section Supervisor Acts as the Division of Cannabis Regulation’s expert on architectural design and oversees construction management of licensed cannabis business entities. They will also Plan, assigns, reviews, and approves confidential/proprietary design work submitted by licensed cannabis entities as a result of the Division modification and alteration application process. “The Administration is committed to creating a fair and equitable adult-use cannabis industry in Illinois.   • Acts as the Division of Cannabis Regulation’s expert on architectural design and supervisor of construction and plans management section overseeing construction management of licensed cannabis business entities.
  • Functions as an architectural specification’s specialist.
  • Confers with Bureau Chiefs and Division Manager, ISP and Inspectors, agency head or Department management staff.
  • Conducts code analyses and reviews; provides assistance to field staff conducting site inspections.
  • Reviews work by outside architects and engineers; meets with building owners, architects, engineers or management regarding proposed work; negotiates alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Serves as working supervisor over technical staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered architect.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of architecture.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of building construction practices, building materials, and trades capabilities and construction.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of state construction regulations.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of state government organizations especially as they relate to physical plant facilities.
  • Prefers experience to communicate architectural themes effectively to nonarchitect parties without utilizing technical jargon.
  • Prefers experience to independently evaluate project elements and make sound architectural decisions.
  • Prefers experience to prepare economic data to reflect impact of construction trends on overall costs.
  • Prefers experience in overseeing activities of project designers and others engaged in the development or review of architectural plans for state building and/or renovation projects.

  • Requires ability to travel statewide in the performance of duties and an appropriate valid driver’s license.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires successful completion of the Certified Fire Inspector One certification program within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Requires successful completion of the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Requires OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training Course within first 6 months of employment.
