Job Summary
Supervise and conduct operation and maintenance activities at all assigned closed landfills. May require travel up to 75% of the time, based on business need.II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
  • Supervise contractors and consultants conducting maintenance and repair work at a site in order to ensure the quality and timeliness of their work. Assist with troubleshooting malfunctions/repairs and be able to provide options for repairs and long-term system improvements.
  • Utilize the competitive bidding process in the selection of maintenance contractors and consultants. Ensure that all third-party contractors and consultants are compliant with all corporate insurance and safety requirements.
  • Possess a solid working knowledge of all site-specific system operation and maintenance requirements including landfill gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems and controls, treatment systems and controls, groundwater and surface water systems as well as other ancillary equipment and other site maintenance requirements.
  • Perform routine site inspections. Perform maintenance and monitoring work as necessary on site systems, including monitoring of the GCCS for landfill gas parameters and for the mitigation of offsite migration of landfill gas.
  • Maintain and update, as necessary, site-specific Operation and Maintenance Plans.
  • Manage site operation and maintenance activities within assigned site budgets. Notify District Manager or designee when activities will exceed annual budgeted amount. Assist in planning, forecasting and preparation of site budgets.
  • Supervise and monitor closed landfill operations to ensure that site operations are in compliance with all corporate safety initiatives.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, review and submit required environmental reports for internal and external audiences as required. Maintain Environmental Protection (EP) data tracking system databases (Cycle, Dakota Tracer) and provide company related reporting.
  • Implement the Corporate EP program policies and strategies at assigned sites.
  • Collect and analyze all required data and readings to comply with facility permits and company policies.
  • Ensure that all data submittals to management and regulatory agencies are collected, analyzed and submitted on time. Utilize the Corporate Cycle Compliance System to achieve this requirement.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulators, local governments and general public potentially involved with or affected by the site.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree (accredited)

  • HAZWOPER preferred.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and above average computer skills (e.g., MS Office and Power BI familiarity, general computer acumen) and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software.
  • Some knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA, and/or automation and control systems is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and resolve issues independently.
