Position SummaryThe School of Medicine (SOM) Finance Office is seeking an Accountant 3 who is a self-starter, possesses strong problem-solving skills and works independently to accomplish assigned tasks.The SOM Finance Office coordinates funds flow between the various Health System entities and SOM departments, reviewing budget compared to actual variances. The qualified candidate will be responsible for initiating/approving transactions for approximately a $600M budget, comprising 43 academic, clinical, research and education departments.The successful candidate should have experience monitoring and maintaining complex accounting and database applications used for key accounting information for the operating unit within the finance system. Additionally, the candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in interpreting and analyzing financial operations and transactions, forecasting trends relating to revenue allocations and expenditure control.Conditions of Employment
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualificationsa. Experience using automated financial accounting/information systems such as Banner, UNM policies and procedures, and other UNM systems for accounting applications.b. Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills, analytical skills, and communication skills.c. Experience in annual budget development, analysis, and presentation.d. Proficient in Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word, Access, or similar tool to analyze/interpret financial data.e. Experience in providing guidance and support to faculty and staff regarding accounting related issues and UNM policies and procedures.f. Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize projects and deadlines.
Additional Requirements Please submit an example of financial reporting compilation utilizing various data source demonstrating report development procedures, size of data set, tools utilized, recipient of the report, how often report was used, and users of the information.
