CLINICAL MOLECULAR SCIENTIST IJOB SUMMARY:The Clinical Molecular Scientist I (CMS I) has been working in a relevant clinical laboratory setting for 6 months to a year. They can perform various clinical laboratory procedures under supervision. Knowledgeable in molecular techniques such as Next Generation library construction, quality control and sequencing particularly for whole genome sequencing, but can also be for exome or panel sequencing. Other weighted molecular technical skills include gel electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, Fragment analysis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid extractions for DNA or RNA from different specimen types. Laboratory experience with automations, laboratoryinformatics management system (LIMS), assay development and validations, monitoring laboratory quality controls and metrics, writing and editing laboratory standard operating procedures are also included. The CMS I has excellent follow-up, multi-tasking and communication skills. They maintain focus on critical or essential goals in the laboratory and is not easily distracted. They are a team player who prioritizes their tasks and consistently demonstrates persistency towards laboratory goals. The candidate is required to be knowledgeable of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policies. They must be able to implement such rules accordingly during daily laboratory production.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, molecular biology or related allied health fieldActive ASCP Certification (MB or MLS)Active CA Certification through California Department of Health (CGMBS or CLS)Current knowledge of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policiesExperience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction, quality control and sequencing including WGS, WES or Panel sequencing preferredExperience in other basic molecular skills i.e.gel electrophoresis, Fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid etraction for DNA or RNA from various types of specimensExperience with automations and laboratory informatics management system (LIMS)Experience writing or editing laboratory standard operating proceduresExperience monitoring laboratory quality controls and metrics6 months experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:1 Year of ExperienceThe expected hiring range for thhe Molecular Scientist I position is $45.74 to $62.92CLINICAL MOLECULAR SCIENTIST IIJOB SUMMARY:The Clinical Molecular Scientist II (CMS II) has been working in a relevant clinical laboratory setting for at least 2 years. They can independently perform various clinical laboratory procedures. Techniques required are: Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction, quality control and sequencing particularly for whole genome sequencing, but can also be for exome or panel sequencing. Other weighted molecular technical skills include: gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Sanger sequencing, Fragment Analysis and nucleic acid extraction for DNA or RNA from different specimen types. Laboratory experience with automations and laboratory informatics management system (LIMS), assay development and validations, monitoring laboratory quality controls and metrics, writing and editing laboratory standard operating procedures are also included. The CMS II holds high working ethical standards. They have good follow-up, multi-tasking and communication skills. They maintain their focus on critical or essential goals in the laboratory and is not easily distracted. They are a team player who prioritizes their tasks and consistently demonstrates persistency towards laboratory goals. The candidate is required to be knowledgeable of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policies. They must be able to implement such rules accordingly during daily laboratory production. The Clinical Molecular Scientistt II is expected to teach or train junior technologists and guide laboratory assistants in their assigned duties.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:2 Years of ExperienceBachelor's Degree in medical technology, molecular biology or related allied health fieldActive ASCP Certification (MB or MLS)Active CA Certification through the California Depatment of Health (CGMBS or CLS)Current knowledge of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policiesAdequate experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction, quality control and sequencing including WGS, WES or Panel sequencing, enough to function as a content expert and mentorExperience in other basic molecular skills i.e. gel electrophoresis, Fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid extraction for DNA or RNA from various types of specimensExperience with automations and laboratory informatics management system (LIMS)Experience monitoring laboratory quality controls and metricsExperience in performing new assay development of clinical validations with minimal oversightPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree4 Years of ExperienceThe expected hiring range for the Molecular Scientist II position is $50.43 to $69.35Rady Children’s Hospital is committed to compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable.
