The ideal candidate is responsible for delivering radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist, perform daily maintenance and quality assurance activities on the equipment, and maintain the inventory of departmental supplies.Essential Functions1. Provide patient education in order to maximize patient compliance with his/her plan of care and provide family education when needed.2. Monitor patient’s physical and physiological response to treatment and refer patient for appropriate management when indicated.3. Demonstrates respect for patient’s confidentiality, modesty and privacy.4. Administers radiation therapy treatment accurately and safely: monitor and report reactions, therapeutic responses and inconsistencies.5. Positions, immobilizes and aligns patients according to the treatment plan and effectively evaluates and solves set-up problems.6. Maintains logs and daily treatment records including accurate documentation of all treatment procedures.7. Possesses knowledge of all scheduling, treatment and billing procedures involving the ARIA system.8. Understands the function of equipment, accessories, treatment methods and protocols and applies knowledge appropriately.9. Works with the Senior Radiation Therapist to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.10. Utilizes a quality assurance program to encompass all aspects of treatment delivery and quality patient care.11. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development from infant through the geriatric stage of life span. In addition, s/he must possess the ability to assess patient relative data as deemed pertinent to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policy and procedure manual.12. Instructs and orients new Radiation Therapists, students and other staff members unfamiliar with the department and/or specific procedures.13. Adapts contingency plans in response to variables which influence workload and/or schedule.14. Demonstrates cooperation and is responsive to all staff members.15. May elect to teach in the school of radiation therapy technology.16. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Therapist Staff meetings.17. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled continual education activities.18. May be an active member of professional organizations; participates in professional activities by attending meetings, serving on committees or task forces, writing and/or presenting scientific papers.19. May participate in the clinical instruction and evaluation of the Radiation Therapy Technology students.20. Other duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum Education - PreferredMust be a graduate of an accredited educational program, or equivalent. A baccalaureate degree is preferred.
Must be registry eligible or hold active certification by the ARRT and have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.Minimum Work ExperienceMinimum of three years experience as a Staff Radiation Therapist at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center or equivalent preferred.
Participation in committees/working groups/special projects and student education.

1. Proficient technical knowledge and skill set. This includes, but is not limited to demonstrating efficient knowledge of all equipment, tools and procedures specific to assigned area. This also includes demonstrating the ability to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise. 2. Proficient in the use of Radiation Oncology IS systems and software, including but not inclusive nor limited to: ARIA, BICS, LMR, ExacTrac & BrainLab, Eclipse. 3. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with physicians, management, staff, patients, and their families. 4. Effective communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills. 5. Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues and conflict. 6. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently. 7. Demonstrate the ability to effectively handle challenging situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities. 8.
