Offer DescriptionThe impact of global crises on the sustainability of consumer behaviourSupervisor: prof. Ing. Drahoslav Lančarič, PhD.Workplace: Institute of Economic Policy and FinanceField of study: Economics and ManagementStudy programme: Economics and Management of Agriculture and Food ProcessingForm of study: full-timeSustainable development has been receiving plenty of attention in literature in the last decades due mainly to the fact that many natural resources have suffered an extreme exploitation which, in many cases, puts them in a situation very close to extinction. Hence, satisfaction of human needs while ensuring the conservation of natural environment constitute the two crucial goals that sustainable development struggles to achieve. The EU strategy on sustainable consumption was discussed in plenary session No.554 during September 16th - 18th 2020. Many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set the year 2030 and relate to responsible consumption, with SDG 12 directly involving sustainable consumption (Perkins et al., 202). Sustainable consumption presents a route to the enhanced well-being of individuals and future generations (Hüttel & Balderjahn, 2022) and it is a relatively new approach within sustainable development that tends to focus on the ecological dimension and living within planetary boundaries (Schappert & von Hauff, 2020). Especially, the green dimension of the sustainable consumption model attracts a lot of attention also in the academic community (Dangelico et al., 2021). Not only European governments care about the ecology, but also consumers prefer the organizations that care about using resources wisely and carrying about future generations. However, the Covid-19 pandemic and following global crises have exerted a deep influence on the way consumers behave for a long period of time, especially during lockdowns. Prior to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, scholarly discourse in the field of sustainable consumption behaviour predominantly revolved around the categorization and evolution of the concept of sustainable consumption behaviour (Liu, 2016; Yang & Qin, 1997) and the impact of socio-structural determinants (Li & Li, 2017; Zhou & Shen, 2020) and psychological causes (Sidique, Lupi, & Joshi, 2010; Thøgersen & Ölander, 2002), exogenous intervention variables (Egmond, Jonkers, & Kok, 2006; Goldsmith & Goldsmith, 2011; Xie & Liu, 2018) on sustainable consumption behaviour, together with investigations into the effects of shared or pre-owned products on sustainable consumption in emerging markets (Liu et al., 2020; Chi et al., 2020; Zhen & Xu, 2019). The objective of the thesis is to present how global crises changed sustainable consumption of different consumer groups across different cultures while studying the relational triangle of consumer environmental awareness, environmental responsibility, and sustainable consumption behaviour as well as evaluate their significance. The thesis is going to point out differences and similarities in sustainable consumption according to consumers´ gender, type of household, size of residence, education and income. Topic for applicants for full time study. Dissertation will be processed in English language.More information about PhD positionFilling in the application form is possible from 1/5/2024 to 31/5/2024Additional research info:Additional admin info:RequirementsResearch Field Economics Education Level Master Degree or equivalentLanguages ENGLISHAdditional InformationWebsite for additional job detailsWork Location(s)Number of offers available 1 Company/Institute Institute of Economic Policy and Finance Country Slovakia State/Province Slovakia City Nitra Postal Code 94976 Street Trieda Andreja Hlinku 2Where to apply WebsiteContact State/ProvinceSlovakia CityNitra WebsiteStreetTrieda Andreja Hlinku 2 Postal Code949 76STATUS: EXPIRED
