- This role is an integral member of an onsite team responsible for supporting all aspects of the BioNTech Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Departmental programs for the Maryland site. These programs include but are not limited to: occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, risk management, environmental permitting and compliance, sustainability, ergonomics, and illness and injury prevention.
- Program Support. Support training and onboarding of individuals for various workplace safety topics, laboratory safety and accident/incident reporting; develop, update, and maintain EHS training materials and training records. Serve as lead for the site volunteer Emergency Response Team.
- Safety. Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law. Conduct hazard analysis and routine inspections; recommend preventative/corrective action where hazards exist; assist with coordination of building evacuation drills; maintain safety data sheets and review of new materials for hazards.
- Compliance. Conduct and document inspections, complete compliance reports for agencies, manage waste records, including hazardous waste manifests and waste profiles; ensure compliance with RCRA and applicable state regulations, coordinate waste shipments with contractor and conduct audits of waste management practices. Oversee completion of routine chemical inventory and required reporting, and permitting.
- Document/Records Management. Develop, maintain and update as needed standard operating procedure (SOP) for all safe work practices and utilize them in the day to day training on SHE programs. Develop, create, and manage site platforms, databases, and SharePoint for documentation of procedures, forms, SOPs, investigations, reporting, inspections, action items, communications, and other management system platforms and their outcomes in line with quality and program requirements.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S) in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Environmental Science or Engineering and at least two years related experience (preferably in an lab environment)
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task with a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks including working with confidential information.
- The SHE Specialist will be familiar with regulatory standards and guidelines such as OSHA, EPA, MD Dept. of Env., ANSI, ASHRAE, DOT and NFPA, as well as local environmental health and safety regulations.
