We are a private day and boarding school located in northern Westchester County, New York, serving the needs of an international coed population of children, adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum. Connect to a career, where passion & purpose combine...The Pines at Shrub Oak is a 24-bed, coeducational, interim residential placement for students on the autism spectrum who may need significant psychiatric support and stabilization before transitioning to a less restrictive environment. Students at the Pines receive psychiatric services in addition to the academic and life skills instruction in a safe, supportive environment with a 2:1 student to staff ratio.Reporting to the Director of The Pines, the Lead RN is a year-round position, serving as an integral part of The Pines leadership team. This position will be responsible for the oversight of daily operations within The Pines, relating to student medical health and wellness. They will employ an evidence-based, student-centric approach to providing high-quality, proactive direct and indirect nursing, medical, and overall proactive wellness care to our students. The Lead RN will be responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of a team of RN’s, LPN’s, and EMT staff. The Lead RN also provides direct nursing care including guiding and mentoring students, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating with all members of the Shrub Oak staff. The RN builds trusting relationships with students, families, the community and other medical service providers, while representing Shrub Oak International School in a respectful, competent manner.Essential Functions – Primary Responsibilities of the PositionDirect oversight and supervision of The Pines RN, LPN and EMT staffDevelopment of procedures and programming to support the overall health and wellness of The Pines studentsCollaborate with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner around holistic health of students and intersection of physical and psychiatric/emotional well beingMonitoring of students’ health and wellness, and perform medical assessment of The Pines residents both as needed and on a routine basisProvide crisis response and first-aid for medical emergencies or student injuries, including collaboration with Emergency Medical Services as neededMaintain an assigned caseload of students to provide medical case management including:Collaboration with student guardian/ family members around medical needs and medical careCollaboration with youth primary and specialist medical providersScheduling of needed appointments including bloodwork, medical, vision, dental, and others as neededRoutine monitoring of students’ height, weight, and vital signsAdministration of student prescribed medicationsCollaboration with nutritionist and food service around dietary and health needsPerform assessment and body-mark checks with students at admission and discharge, as well as following significant incidents or allegationsCoordinate with medical providers and pharmacy around prescriptions and refills of student medicationsWork collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team of providers including psychiatric, clinical, education, and direct-care providers.Performs any other responsibilities as needed and requiredPlease note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for the jobMinimum Experience & QualificationsCurrent NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in good professional standingMinimum 5 years of experience as an RN working with children/adolescentsDemonstrated supervisory experience to develop, engage, and lead a team of medical/ nursing staffExperience in an educational or psychiatric setting preferredExperience working with youth with autism and/or psychiatric illness preferredCompetenciesWell-honed nursing/ medical assessment skills and ability to assess and respond quickly in emergent situationsExceptional communication (oral and written) and active listening skills to appropriately understand and meet student needs, as well as to interact with faculty, staff, families, and all external constituenciesExpertise to make recommendations for the design of medical/ wellness programming to meet the evolving needs of program and studentsExcellent analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to understand, problem solve, and make sound determinations/decisions in situations with complex facts and dataAbility to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders while being sensitive and responsive to the diverse needs of students, families, faculty, and staff, with a high degree of cultural competency and collegialityAbility to effectively and proactively interact with a wide variety of individuals in a manner that values diversity, and positively portrays our programs, personnel, and philosophiesAbility to adapt and remain flexible while leading, developing, and mentoring othersAbility to multitask and make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure, where situations/circumstances are continually evolvingPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-Time/ 40-hr position with some on-call responsibilityPay: 130,000/yr + Competitive BenefitsSupervisory Responsibility – YesBudget responsibility (If yes, please state amount: N/AWhat is the nature and scope of independent decisions made in this position?

The work will generally be performed in a school/residential environment.Physical Demands
Physical demands are in excess of sitting and require walking or standing to a significant degree. The RN is required to move throughout the campus on a routine basis and execute program operations. Daily desk work including extensive amounts of computer and phone time as well as the ability to navigate stairs, mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement, bending and squatting, lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds, and the ability to rearrange furniture for events is occasionally required.Travel (if yes, percentage of travel time required) n/aOther unique responsibilities or conditions not previously listed i.e. bilingual, driver’s license, etc.
