Job Summary: Under general supervision, responsible for the completion of facilities, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Provides assistance in organizational health and safety by performing monthly equipment checks and site evaluations. Serves as a backup forklift and box truck driver. Performs related duties as assigned.Essential Functions:General Maintenance and Repair of Buildings, Facilities, Equipment, and GroundsPerforms a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various facilities/sites including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and painting tasks; repairs and treats structures such as floors; cleans debris from roof gutters as necessary; performs minor troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments of locks on doors; repairs door hinges; changes filters on various ventilation units; reports mechanical malfunctions to supervisor for action; moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment at various sites; sets up and breaks down cubicle partitions; identifies projects requiring the services of a higher skilled professional; assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as directed; completes service requests and updates work logs for specific site requirements; opens and closes site buildings when needed; as part of site support team, assists with special projects periodically as directed; maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites; helps coordinate responsible disposal of donated flammable liquids and chemicals. * Carpentry: Performs basic rough and finished carpentry repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences, window frames, office furniture, roofs, and shelves.
  • Electrical: Performs basic electrical repair work for lighting fixtures, switches, outlets, plugs, cables, appliances, and reports unsafe electrical conditions.
  • Plumbing: Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; opens clogged lines and drains; replaces seals and other minor parts; maintains drinking fountains; repairs, replaces and maintains hot water heaters and other appliances.
  • Masonry: Repairs concrete floors, sidewalks, pavers, ramps, and slabs.
  • Helps perform monthly site and equipment safety checks (exit signs, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, generator, etc.) and ensures documentation completed.
  • Ensures scheduled maintenance repairs or service of equipment and building completed with appropriate documentation.
  • Serves as backup forklift driver loading/unloading trucks and keeping production moving ahead.
  • Trains assigned trainees and staff on walkie stacker and forklift.
  • Serves as backup box truck driver.
  • Operates baler, shredder, and trash compactor equipment.
  • Operates power equipment such as lawn care, saws, drills, and other hand or stationary equipment.
  • Maintains grounds in clean, safe, and orderly manner; performs grounds maintenance including filling potholes, weed removal, pruning trees/shrubs, and snow removal.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled closing assistance, repairs of equipment and building.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Participates on health and safety committee for Goodwill resulting in successful CARF accreditation.

Education and/or Experience:High school diploma or equivalent required. Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Have good organizational skills, be computer literate, and be able to work a flexible schedule (when necessary). Experience working with persons with disabilities preferred. Have or willing to obtain a valid Chauffeur's license, personal auto insurance, and be able to drive from location to location. Able to be licensed to operate a forklift and able to operate manual lifts. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.Knowledge of methods used in maintenance including basic knowledge of the following trades: electrical wiring, carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and groundskeeping; maintenance of hand tools and gas-powered equipment; standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities; safety practices and procedures related to the building trades; proper lifting techniques; basic math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.Skill and Ability to:Effectively use a variety of hand and power tools; operate appropriate lifts as needed to perform duties of the job; review and identify projects needed to be serviced by outside contractors; follow oral and/or written instructions; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; maintain work logs and service requests; Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license; willingness to work outside (if necessary) in inclement weather.Physical Demands and Work Environment:Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, reach, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds, walking or standing to a significant degree, exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, dust, etc., and carry boxes, tools, equipment and materials.
