REPORTS TO: School Principal (or Assistant Principal)
LOCATION: Lake Forest High School
JOB GOAL: To prepare students for careers in information technology and computer science. Exposure to topics such as interface design, limits of computers, and societal and ethical issues allow students to engage in open-ended problem solving and programing experiences. Students may participate in a long-term placement during their senior year which allows for in-depth experiences in an industry-based setting.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Organize, teach, and lead the skills and knowledge in the Programming and Software Development Pathway to secondary students, using the Computer Science Program of Study adopted by the State of Delaware Department of Education.
  • Collaborate with the WBL Coordinator to place and support students in short and/or long-term placements in their senior year.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop and align curriculum and instruction to establish a pathway to employment within the Lake Forest School District and surrounding community.
  • Maintain an auditable record of student attendance and makes daily reports of students absent each period. Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
  • Create a safe and engaging classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Maintain high expectations for all learners and inspire problem-based learning through diversity and equity lenses.
  • Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills.
  • Select and requisition instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records; makes purchases as authorized.
  • Maintain course competence through professional development in the three courses of the pathway including the Advanced Placement offerings.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on the individual student's progress.
  • Identify pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Organize and coordinate a Pathway Advisory Committee to include members such as students, parents, community members, industry leaders, and Institutes of Higher Education per Federal Perkins requirements.
  • Actively participates in the District’s CTE Advisory Committee to engage the community in the development and review of CTE programs.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development specific to CTE programs and courses as required by the specific Program of Study and Perkins grant.
  • Serve as advisor to the program specific Career & Technical Student Organization including preparing students for and chaperoning competition, and attending personal and professional student development.
  • Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to vocational education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The Computer Science program of study is a three (3) course Career & Technical Education (CTE) instructional program that engages students in open-ended problem solving where students study computational practices such as algorithm development, problem solving and programming within the context of problems relevant to their everyday lives. They are also introduced to topics such as interface design, limits of computers, and societal and ethical issues. The program prepares students for further education and careers in information technology and computer science. The CTE program consists of three courses: Exploring Computer Science (ECS; AP Computer Science Principles (CSP); and AP Computer Science A (CSA).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month contract as determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.The following are conditions of employment for new employees: * Satisfactory criminal background check prior to being placed on payroll.
