- Provides supervision of three Utility Mechanic Supervisors that operate and maintain the functions of sanitary sewer pumping stations
- Perform supervisory functions, such as scheduling and prioritizing work assignments; conduct performance appraisals, approve leave, monitor overtime, take disciplinary actions, and make promotion recommendations
- Assist the Sewer Pump Station Superintendent in the planning, supervising and installation of sewer pumps and the maintenance and repair of sewer pump stations
- Coordinate and oversee the purchasing of sewer pumps
- Maintain complete reports and records concerning the operational status of the sewer pump stations and ensure compliance with City, state, and federal regulatory requirements
- Planning, organizing, motivating, scheduling, directing, establishing responsibilities, and reviewing the activities of employees with many different levels of education and experience, to meet all the job requirements of the sewer pump shop and to effectively supervise subordinate personnel
- Diagnosing operational design and technical problems and the maintenance and repair of all pump station equipment. Provides technical expertise during emergencies
- Formulate and implement employee safety training programs and procedures to alleviate occupational hazards and remain within guidelines as set forth by OSHA
- Work with the City's engineering division in the integration process of new and renovated sewer pump stations
- Follow all City and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures in hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, etc., of subordinate employees to ensure equitable treatment
- Provide guidance and technical expertise during emergency repairs nights, weekends, and holidays as required to ensure minimal adverse impact to the customers
- Recommends and implements process improvements
- Uses an electronic device for implementation of the work order management system
- Read and review plans, specification, and other construction documents, to assist in maintenance and troubleshooting as required
- Ensures members receive the appropriate training to efficiently perform their work
- Resolves citizen inquires in a courteous and timely manner
- Attends requisite coordination meetings as required
- Coordinate activities with outside agencies, departments, and divisions
- Recommends and implements process improvements
- Responds to emergencies on a 24/7 basis which may include rotating nights, weekends, and/or holidays to ensure adequate resources, supervision, guidance, and timely correction of problems; rotates standby as an Alpha I employee
- Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operation status
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the Superintendent based on then current workloads and department needs
