  • Show proficiency in blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups, including pediatrics and difficult draws.
  • Draw the labs required, label and scan test in system and prepare specimen for transport.
  • Accurately and efficiently be able to perform laboratory testing covered by CLIA.
  • Rooms patients and reviews health history, addresses preventative maintenance issues and is knowledgeable of age specific growth and development as related to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient as appropriate. Accurately collects and records data as appropriate at the patient contact and requirements of Meaningful Use and The Joint Commission.
  • Possesses knowledge of tests and procedures as they relate to specific specialties. Recognizes significant values and works with the provider to notify patients of results and follow up activities in a timely manner as defined by clinic practice/policy.
  • Assists the provider with medical procedures and exams following Universal Protocol relating to the capabilities and age specific criteria of a neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, utilizing protective devices as needed to maintain integrity of medical treatment if necessary. Administers medication as directed by the provider. Demonstrates the ability to recognize and report any side effects associated with this.
  • Administers medications as directed/ordered by the provider. Demonstrates and understand administration techniques. Recognizes the implications of dosages, interactions, side effects, adverse effects, routes of administration of drugs as they apply to individual patients.
  • Communicates and /or completes provider orders to outside sources (i.e. pharmacy, other clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) Also assists in the completion of various medical forms (i.e. RTW, school forms, DOT, workers compensation, consent forms, FMLA).
  • Screens phone calls, collect all pertinent data, communicates this information to the provider. Will direct or implement appropriate care utilizing provider direction or preferences.
  • Performs laboratory testing covered by CLIA, performs venipuncture, prepares specimens for transport and complies with all quality measures. Ensures all nurse rendered services are captured and completion of ABN form as appropriate.
  • Assists with appointment scheduling of office visits/referrals/diagnostic testing/therapies/surgeries. Responsible for working with the preauthorization department or insurance companies to initiate referrals and to obtain approvals, pre-certifications and prior authorization for medical care and treatment. Assists in completion of registration and depart process as necessary.
  • Maintains equipment in a clean and safe condition at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes department-specific orientation and annual competencies for this position.
Requirements for this position include:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of Certified Medical Assistant Program
  • 1 year experience as a CMA/CCMA/RMA in a clinic or acute care setting preferred
